Sony HDPS-M1 Hard Disk Photo Storage
Sony’s HDPS-M1 40G Hard Disk Drive is fitted with a Shock Protection System and drop-down covers protect the card slots and USB and power connections from dust and damage. The internal battery is charged in roughly four hours when the power is connected, and the USB slot enables PC connection. The only controls provided are an on/off button on the side panel and copy and cancel/HDD capacity buttons on the top. No delete button is provided so you can’t delete files either singly or collectively.
CompactFlash and Memory Stick slots are provided and Memory Stick Pro cards are supported as well as Memory Stick Duo cards (via an adaptor). The bundled PhotoDiary software automatically downloads images to a connected PC, logs and sorts images, sound, video and other data into a calendar format, enabling files to be archived chronologically. However, it’s a Windows-only application. In our tests it took just over six minutes to copy 510MB of image files from a fast CompactFlash card to the HDPS-M1, but only around 50 seconds to transfer the 510MB from the HDPS-M1 to a PC via the fast USB 2.0 interface
